Everyone loves a Grotie Buckie! Delicate but solid Cowrie shell  drop earrings

Smart or casual wear. The shell measures 10 mm in length and including bail 15 mm. Perfect gift for bridesmaids or that special person. Cast from a real shell found on a Stronsay beach. Oxidised to enhance the texture.

In Orkney Cowries are called Grotie Buckies and are said to bring luck to the bearer. It’s a great sport trying to spot these tiny shells on the shoreline and sometimes it can get quite competative who can collect the most.

There are two spieces of Cowries found in Orkney. Northern Cowrie, which has no markings and the slightly larger European Cowrie which has 3 spots on their backs.
