Beach Combing Charm Bracelet with Cowrie Shell (Grotie Buckie)

A delicate Sterling Silver bracelet with charms from the sea and shore. This one comes with a silver Cowrie shell or Grotie Buckie as its called in Orkney. It has a handmade clasp. Length is 20 cm but can be altered to suit. Please state when purchasing. Hallmarked in Edinburgh

In Orkney Cowries are called Grotie Buckies and are said to bring luck to the bearer. It’s a great sport trying to spot these tiny shells on the shoreline and sometimes it can get quite competative who can collect the most.

There are two spieces of Cowries found in Orkney. Northern Cowrie, which has no markings and the slightly larger European Cowrie which has 3 spots on their backs.
