The ultimate Cowrie-Groatie Buckie Pendant!  A real shell found on an Orkney beach set in sterling and fine silver. The silver represent bubbles of seafoam. The back shows the shell through a heart cut out of the solid backing. As this is a real shell they will all vary ever so slightly in size, texture and shade. approximate size excluding the bail is 17 mm

In Orkney Cowries are called Grotie Buckies and are said to bring luck to the bearer. It’s a great sport trying to spot these tiny shells on the shoreline and sometimes it can get quite competative who can collect the most.

There are two spieces of Cowries found in Orkney. Northern Cowrie, which has no markings and the slightly larger European Cowrie which has 3 spots on their backs.
